In 2001 Jenny made her first container candle and hasn't stopped since. She could not wait to get home from her auditing job as a CPA to make more candles. Shortly after the first candle party she expanded to the Sarasota Farmer's Market where Once Lit Candle bloomed into a business.
The name Once Lit Candle was used because we followed the old wives tale that it was unlucky to have an unlit candle in your house; therfore, we lit every candle before selling it. Even though we still light every pillar before we sell them, we changed the name to Sarasota Candle Company so visitors to the Sarasota Farmer's Market would know we are a local company that handmakes every candle we sell.
Now in 2009 we have expanded and grew out of 4 studios and have added 2 employees, Jennifer Boris and David Brown (who also have full-time careers). We continue to sell our candles at the Farmer's Market, our most successful store, and have opened a retail store this year on State Street. You can also find Sarasota Candles at local stores.
